Overview

Goal: Talk back against misconceptions, misunderstanding, and misinformation about various student-selected topics.

Description: Students were asked to research, create an art piece, and write an artist statement about a topic which is frequently misunderstood. Students selected topics that are important to them, such as misconceptions about race, gender, sexual orientation, athletic ability, mental health, and more. 

Students addressed the original misconception by creating a digital art piece and “edited” the misconception to reflect their own beliefs on their chosen subject. Afterwards, students crafted an artist statement based in research to discuss why misconceptions about their topic exist and why these misconceptions should be addressed.
